I'm worried that he might not be writing anything at all. I'm a procrastinator myself, I know how it works: you have some main task (which would be The Winds of Winter in George's case) and ones less important (Targaryen history, Dunk and Egg short novels - by the way, it is said that the filming of one more prequel, based on those novels, has started! HBO loves money more than it hates Targaryens )... Where was I? Yeah, you have a main task to do, you can't do it (because you don't want to) and you can't move on because you really should be doing it... And the time just goes on...
And there is one more thing, The Winds of Winter are gonna be HATED on by fans no matter how good they actually are. Too much time has passed, people have built up high expectations, fandom have dissected every piece of lore to build crazy theories, some will be honestly disappointed, others will be "and this is what took you so much time? meh"...

Thanks for the Ad!)) Though, just saying, Kirk's crew isn't exactly mine, those people lived and served 95 years prior to my characters timeline, buuuut well, time travelling is still a thing xD
I guess we can break it to hell and join in one messed up timeline just for fun. I've actually tried to look for Pike's crew once not so long ago, which is even earlier in timeline than my TNG era xd not with much success but anyway.
