oh my, I didn't want to cry because of a kids star trek show, but it's hard not to

Came across this couple of sentences in a book
They lapsed into silence, watching as the new dawn grew bolder, painting the mountains in vivid gold and purple. Calgar thought it beautiful and knew Tigurius would have loved to capture such a scene in water-colours.

Every time I look at the Herald's picture of Data, I always think about the only episode of Star Trek I know about - the one, where there was a some sort of trial, where one side was vying to dismantle Data and use everything he has (replicate? reuse for something more?) and the other advocated for him to be treated more humane even though he is not a human
Don't remember much more of this, but this episode will be there, waiting for me when I will make my way over to the Star Trek
